Back at our desks, we have been reflecting on a great couple of days at the Pharmaceutical Launch Excellence Summit, our standout moments and the key takeaways.
✈️ Firstly, just as we saw at the 2024 summit, the energy in a room full of people who care deeply about launch excellence is impressive. There is something powerful about seeing so many teams dedicate this much time to the same shared goal.
We believe that launch excellence is a discipline in its own right. It calls for specialist skills, strong capabilities, emotional investment and a supportive operational infrastructure. It was fantastic to hear industry thought leaders echo this throughout the agenda. Many speakers highlighted the importance of the people factor for successful launches. Psychological safety, a shared team identity and clear governance all came up repeatedly.
✈️ Secondly, there was continued focus on the 6-month launch window and why it makes launch optimisation so important. Reviewing and refining our launches in good time not only supports course correction but also gives us the opportunity to strengthen launch operations and build organisational capability.
At the same time, a theme of pragmatism emerged on day two. Several speakers shared examples of launches that succeeded despite less-than-ideal conditions. Lean teams, tight timelines, licensing complexities and competing priorities are a reality for many of us.
We also heard great examples of tenacity, cross-functional teamwork and resilience, including cases where performance improved meaningfully after the 6-month point. A useful reminder not to write launches off too soon.
🛩️ Thirdly, the group kept returning to the question of whether the traditional rocket analogy still reflects the true nature of modern launches.
Are launches better represented by a car on a constantly recalculated route, adapting to new roadblocks? Or perhaps a plane with a gentler trajectory, fully prepared for take off yet still navigating turbulence mid-flight?
Thank you to all speakers and fellow launch enthusiasts for making the two days so engaging and insightful, and the IQPC team who organised the conference:
