Today, Feb 11th marks the International day of Women and Girls in science.

Having 3 girls myself, I have always been very aware of the need to instil a sense of gender equality and awareness of unconscious bias in them from a very young age . Upon my return to work after each of my 3 were born, I sometimes wondered if I had got the balance right.

However, when awareness days like today remind us of the gap that still exists between the different genders in STEM roles (interesting article The Gender Gap in STEM) It reassures me that my children growing up knowing that I have a successful career in the life sciences/ healthcare sector is one of the best gifts I can give them. (Of course – at the moment a pair of ‘Jordan’s’ or a phone hold more value as gifts…. but they’ll get it one day!)
